Terms of Service

Last updated: 27 July 2026

Draft notice: this document was written to accurately describe how the product works, based on the current codebase. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer.

1. Acceptance of terms

By creating an account or using The Collective (“the Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use the Service.

2. What the Service does

The Collective reads newsletter emails you subscribe to (via a connected Gmail account), synthesises them into a spoken briefing using AI (Anthropic’s Claude), converts that briefing into audio (via ElevenLabs), and delivers it to you by email and in-app. Optionally, it can incorporate your calendar (Google, Microsoft, or an ICS feed) into the briefing, and you can chat with Louie, an AI agent, for follow-up questions.

3. Accounts

  • You sign in via a passwordless magic link sent to your email — we do not use passwords.
  • Accounts are created automatically the first time you request a magic link with a new email address (open signup).
  • You’re responsible for keeping access to your email account secure, since it’s the sole method of authenticating to the Service.
  • You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service.

4. Subscriptions and billing

  • Some or all features may require an active paid subscription, billed monthly or annually via Stripe.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from the Billing Portal in Settings.
  • Depending on your cancellation timing, access may continue until the end of the current billing period, or end immediately — this will be made clear to you at the point of cancelling.
  • We don’t store your payment card details; they’re held directly by Stripe.
  • Prices are shown at checkout and may change with notice; changes won’t apply retroactively to a period you’ve already paid for.

5. Connecting third-party accounts

  • Connecting Gmail, Google Calendar, Microsoft Calendar, or an ICS feed requires you to grant OAuth access (or provide a feed URL). You can revoke this access at any time, either from Settings or directly from the third-party provider’s account permissions page.
  • You’re responsible for the newsletters and calendars you choose to connect. We only fetch and process data from the senders and calendars you explicitly configure.
  • If a connected provider changes, restricts, or revokes API access, affected features may stop working until reconnected.

6. AI-generated content

  • Briefings, transcripts, and Louie’s chat responses are generated by AI models and may occasionally be incomplete, out of date, or contain errors (“hallucinations”).
  • The Service is a convenience summarisation tool, not a substitute for reading original sources when accuracy matters — particularly for anything involving financial, legal, medical, or time-sensitive decisions.
  • We do not guarantee that any briefing captures every detail from your source newsletters or that Louie’s responses are factually correct.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to process newsletters or calendar content you don’t have the right to access.
  • Attempt to circumvent usage limits, subscription gating, or authentication.
  • Use the Service to generate or distribute unlawful, abusive, or infringing content.
  • Interfere with the operation of the Service or attempt to access accounts other than your own.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

8. Intellectual property

  • Briefing scripts and audio generated for your account are yours to use personally.
  • Newsletter content remains the property of its original publishers; the Service summarises it for your personal use and does not grant you rights to republish or redistribute the underlying source content.
  • The Collective’s branding, design, and underlying software remain the property of Levistus.

9. Termination

You may stop using the Service and request account deletion at any time by emailing [email protected]. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, or discontinue the Service (or features of it) with reasonable notice where practical.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted availability. We do not guarantee that briefings will be delivered on schedule every day, or that third-party integrations (Gmail, Calendar, Stripe, etc.) will always be available.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Levistus is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including decisions made based on AI-generated summaries.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
